State statutes vest the Probate Court with original and exclusive jurisdiction of juvenile delinquents, abused and neglected children, and termination of parental rights and adoption proceedings. The Juvenile Division of Probate Court or, simply Juvenile Court is charged with authority over such cases.

The Judge of Probate has jurisdiction of decedent’s guardians of legally incapacitated persons, conservators, mental commitments, change of name, emancipation of minors, orders for persons with communicable diseases, parental consent bypass, and other.
